2CHRONICLES 12-13:
Yesterday we heard of David’s grandson, Rehoboam, and the unfortunate start to his reign. The northern tribes revolted and went with Jeroboam. Rehoboam seems to have made wise choices after that, at least for a short time.

PROVERBS 29b:
Today’s highlighted verse:

Pro. 29:23 GNT Arrogance will bring your downfall, but if you are humble, you will be respected.

MATTHEW 12a:
Yesterday’s reading included the judgements against the cities that refused to repent even though they witnessed Jesus’ miracles. Chapter 11 also includes Jesus’ prayer of thanksgiving, and closes with Jesus’ famous words:

Mat. 11:28 “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

GNT Translation note:
Mat. 12:1 Not long afterward Jesus was walking through some wheat fields on a Sabbath. [We,] His disciples were hungry, so [we//they] began to pick heads of wheat and eat the grain.
4 He went into the house of God, and he and his men ate the bread offered to God, even though it was against the Law for them to eat it—only the priests [are//were] allowed to eat that bread.
8 for [I,] the Son of Man [am//is] Lord of the Sabbath.”
